Some Questions and Answers

How many sessions do I need?

I usually suggest starting with a minimum of 6 sessions, but there's no fixed number — you can have as many as you feel you need. We’ll review things regularly and make decisions together based on what feels right for you. 


How long are the sessions?

They are 50 minutes long.


Will the sessions be confidential?

Yes — everything we talk about in sessions is kept private. Confidentiality is very important to me.
There are a few legal exceptions (such as serious harm or serious illegal activity), and I’ll explain these clearly before we begin so you know exactly what to expect. 


What if I have to cancel a session?

If you need to cancel a session, just let me know at least 24 hours in advance. This gives me time to offer the slot to someone else. I understand that sometimes things come up unexpectedly, so please feel free to reach out if you are unsure. 


What if I can’t make a session I am on holiday or have other commitments?

If you have a holiday or another commitment coming up and can’t make a session, that’s absolutely fine. Just let me know in advance, and we can reschedule — there’s no charge for sessions you give notice for. 


How do I pay for sessions?

You can pay by bank transfer, and I ask that payment is made at least 24 hours before your session.
If you need any help with setting this up or have questions, just let me know — I'm happy to help. 


What if I don’t know what to talk about?

It’s completely okay if you’re not sure what to talk about. Some things take time to surface, and we can go at your pace. There’s no pressure — just come as you are. 


How often are sessions?

Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly — whatever feels right for you. We’ll decide together what works best. Having consistent weekly sessions will help the therapeutic relationship develop. Then, when you feel comfortable, sessions can be changed to the frequency that you feel is the best fit for you. 


Is there an age limit?

Right now, I work with people aged 16 and over. I’m hoping to offer sessions to younger clients in the future, and I’ll share updates when that changes. If you're not sure whether this applies to you or someone you know, feel free to ask. 


How do I know if it’s right for me?

It’s okay if you’re not sure at first — we’ll take time to see how it feels for you. You can always talk to me about how things are going, and we’ll have regular check-ins and reviews to make sure the support is working for you. 


Can I bring someone?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring someone with you if it helps you feel more comfortable. They can wait nearby, but they won’t be part of the session itself. If you’re unsure, just let me know and we can talk it through. 


Does my GP need to refer me?

No, but If you feel happy to tell your GP then that is fine. 


Can I have my phone in the counselling room?

You can bring your phone into the room, however it will need to be switched off or on silence during the session. This is so we can both have our full attention without distraction.
